Our Sky Sports The Open channel launches on July 11th with live coverage of the 145th Open at Royal Troon beginning three days later.

Colin Montgomerie was one of 12 players to progress through final qualifying for the 145th Open on Tuesday, but who else joined him? We find out more about the other players to secure their places in the Royal Troon field.

Steven Alker

Eighteen years on from his first Open appearance, the New Zealand journeyman will be back for more at Royal Troon after ending runner-up at Royal Cinque Ports.

The 44-year-old has played on numerous tours in a career spanning two decades, appearing mostly on the Web.com Tour this campaign having featured heavily on the PGA Tour last time around.

Alker has eight professional victories worldwide, while his best Open performance saw him end tied-19th at Lytham St. Annes in 2012.

Oskar Arvidsson

The little-known Swede was the surprise winner at Gailes Links, firing a bogey-free opening-round 64 on his way to finishing four clear of the chasing pack.

Ranked 1418th in the world, Arvidsson posted three top-20 finishes in as many weeks at the start of the Asian Development Tour season, but hasn't registered one since.

Arvidsson failed at the first qualifying stage in his efforts to reach this year's European Tour, but will now have a chance to impress in Scotland next month.

Dave Coupland

The Lincolnshire player followed a tied-sixth finish on the EuroPro Tour earlier in the week by edging through the play-off at Hillside.

Coupland narrowly missed out on a top-10 finish in Austria last year
Coupland bounced back from a second-round 73 to become the first player to progress via extra holes.

The Woodhall Spa-based golfer has appeared frequently on the Challenge Tour this season, having ended tied-11th in his first European Tour start at last year's Lyoness Open.

Paul Dunne

Dunne will make a maiden major appearance as a professional after winning Woburn qualifying for the third year running.

The Irishman, who missed the Open cut in 2014, famously held a share of the 54-hole of the lead last year as an amateur before eventually ending tied-30th.

Dunne held the 36-hole lead at St Andrews

After winning the Walker Cup and turning professional, the 22-year-old has since gone on to claim six top-20 finishes on the European Tour.

Ryan Evans

The Wellingborough GC member continued his rise in the sport by posting back-to-back rounds of 68 at Woburn and earning his Open debut.

Evans impressed in his first season on the Challenge Tour last year, posting two top-fives and ending 28th in the Road to Oman standings, before progressing through Q-School to secure his European Tour card.

Although Evans has missed the cut in nine of his 13 worldwide starts this season, he did post his best finish of his career by ending tied-12th at the Mauritius Open.

Scott Fernandez

The 23-year-old is one of several to be added to an Open roster for the first time after an impressive showing at Gailes Links.

A birdie-filled 66 during the second round of qualifying gave the Spaniard, who was educated in America before turning professional, a first major start.

Playing predominately on the Challenge Tour this campaign, Fernandez has ended inside the top-25 in five of his last eight starts.

James Heath

The 33-year-old made it a week to remember after following a long-awaited victory by coming through qualifying with a fast finish at Royal Cinque Ports.

James Haddock takes us round the Royal Cinque Ports golf course in Kent, one of the four final qualifying venues
Having ended a 10-year drought by winning the SSE Scot Hydro Challenge, Heath birdied the last two holes of his final round to end qualifying tied for second in Kent.

Heath's only other professional win came on the Challenge Tour at the 2006 ECCO Tour Championship, while the Londoner's best showing on the European Tour came via a share of fourth at last year's M2M Russian Open.

Paul Howard

Howard is another player to secure a first major start after taking the first round lead on his way to progressing through the field at Hillside.

The Southport & Ainsdale golfer was in the initial squad for last year's Walker Cup, only to miss out on final selection after turning professional a few months before Great Britain and Ireland's victory.

After mixing the rest of 2015 between playing the Challenge Tour and the EuroPro Tour, Howard has been a regular in Europe's second tier this season and recently finished joint-second at the Swiss Masters.

Colin Montgomerie

The five-time major runner-up and three-time senior major champion booked his first Open appearance since 2010 after coming out of the Gailes Links qualifier in third spot.

Montgomerie finished tied-25th the last time it was held at Royal Troon
Although he hasn't appeared on the European Tour since missing the cut at last year's PGA Championship, the Scot has already posted four top-10 finishes on the Champions Tour in 2016.

Montgomerie, who is relishing the chance to play on his home course, will also be part of the Sky Sports Golf pundit team during the tournament.

Robert Rock

The English needed a play-off to book his spot at Royal Troon, posting a second-round 66 before edging past Aaron Rai.

Rock made an early exit during his last Open visit in 2012
Rock missed the cut in the last of his six Open starts four years' ago, while his best showing came when he ended tied-seventh at St Andrews in 2010.

The world No 213 fell narrowly short of a third European Tour title at last month's Trophee Hassan II, ending tied-third one stroke short of Jeunghun Wang, with his last win coming at the 2012 Abu Dhabi Championship.

Jack Senior

The Lancastrian posted rounds of 69 and 70 to claim a three-shot win over the chasing pack at Hillside and secure a maiden major appearance.

Once part of the same 2011 Walker Cup winning side as Andy Sullivan, the 27-year-old has missed in the cut in seven of his 11 appearances so far in 2016.

Senior's biggest win to date was in Scotland at last year's SSE Scot Hydro Challenge, where he came through a three-man play-off to claim victory, although he suffered an early exit from the event this time around.

Matthew Southgate

The Essex-based player missed the cut in his only previous Open start two years' ago, but has completed a remarkable recovery to make the field for golf's oldest major.

Southgate was grouped with Rory McIlroy during the event at the K Club
Southgate was sidelined last season after being diagnosed with testicular cancer, but returned to action after treatment and came through all three stages of the Qualifying School to regain his European Tour card.

The 27-year-old took advantage of a late call-up to post a career-best finish at May's Irish Open, before topping the leaderboard in final qualifying at Royal Cinque Ports.

And those who missed out…

Walker Cup winner Ashley Chesters, who ended tied-12th in 2015, failed to make it a third straight year at the Open when he missed out in a play-off, while Australia's Scott Arnold and European Tour regular Tjaart Van Der Walt also couldn't make it through from Hillside.

Kevin Phelan and Scott Jamieson were among those not to progress from Gailes Links and world No 117 Dean Burmester was one stroke off a play-off at Royal Cinque Ports, as former Czech Open champion Oliver Fisher and Sweden's Marcus Kinhult fell short at Woburn.

Golf, more golf: nearly 50 hours of live TV for British Open

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Take the longest day in major championship golf and a network devoted exclusively to golf and the result is unprecedented coverage. NBC Sports and Golf Channel will combine to provide a record 49.5 hours of live coverage over four days from the British Open at Royal Troon.
The Open 2016 Live

"You go first tee shot all the way through to the raising of the claret jug," said Mike McCarley, president of Golf for NBC Sports Group. "It will be either on Golf Channel or NBC the whole way through."

NBC and Golf Channel picked up the British Open a year early from ESPN, and it gives the network a major after the USGA signed on with Fox. The Open will have 12 hours more than ESPN scheduled for last year.

The Masters prefers limited live television and provided 18.5 hours this year on ESPN and CBS. Fox said it will have 36.5 hours on FS1 and Fox. The PGA Championship is shown on TNT and CBS with 28 hours from Baltusrol the last week in July.

The Open Championship, with the advantage of extended summer daylight in Britain, typically starts about 6:30 a.m. and the last group went off at 4:13 p.m. at St. Andrews last year. Golf Channel and NBC, both owned by Comcast, provide a seamless transition in its weekend coverage of the PGA Tour, and this will be no different.

"We looked at a lot of different schedules and measurements. We get very scientific with how ratings work," McCarley said. "But ultimately, we came back to the fact this is a major championship, everyone qualified to be there and they all deserve to be on the air. That's been a philosophy of (NBC golf producer) Tommy Roy for a long time. We have the resources. We have the personnel. And we think it's the right thing to do for the fans."

McCarley said Johnny Miller, Nick Faldo and Frank Nobilo will rotate as the lead analyst in the 18th tower. Dan Hicks and Terry Gannon will handle the lead announcing role. The 10 analysts on the ground and other towers include the usual NBC crew (Roger Maltbie, David Feherty, Gary Koch, Peter Jacobsen, Notah Begay, Mark Rolfing) and some who mostly do Golf Channel telecasts (such as Curt Byrum and Jerry Foltz).

Golf Channel will have its studio live from Royal Troon, which will include David Duval when he gets done playing. Duval won the Open at Royal Lytham & St. Annes in 2001; Faldo is a three-time champion; and Miller won in 1976 at Royal Birkdale.

"We have a deep bench," McCarley said. "It's one of the benefits of having a 24-hour golf network, and we're also fortunate enough to have three people who have an Open Championship working for us."

The times on the East Coast will be 1:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the weekdays, and 4 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the weekend (2:30 p.m. on Saturday).

Still to be determined is what it will do with its "Morning Drive" show. McCarley said Golf Channel was working on something "creative" to do with it.

OPEN CUTOFFS: With more than a $1.08 million check as a consolation prize for his runner-up finish at The Players Championship, Kevin Chappell no longer has to worry about U.S. Open qualifying and can book his first trip to the British Open.

This is the last week of competition before the U.S. Open exempts the top 60 in the world ranking and the British Open takes the top 50. The U.S. Open also will give a tee time to anyone in the top 60 the week of the U.S. Open.

Chappell improved to No. 33.

Billy Horschel (No. 47), Ryan Moore (No. 48) and Smylie Kaufman (No. 51) are not playing the AT&T Byron Nelson (David Lingmerth, at No. 49, is in the Irish Open). While they are safe for the U.S. Open, Kaufman cannot move into the top 50 this week for Royal Troon.

Playing in the Byron Nelson is James Hahn (No. 54), who probably needs a finish just outside the top 10 to crack the top 50.The Open 2016 Live

In the Irish Open, Victor Dubuisson is at No. 58. He is projected to fall out of the top 60 this week, so the Frenchman would need to make the cut and finish around the mid-40s to get back in. Also in the Irish Open is Thomas Pieters at No. 63. He missed out on his bid for the Masters at the Dell Match Play and would help himself toward a U.S. Open invite by finishing in the top 20 or so.

___

TIGER'S PRACTICE: Tiger Woods played five holes when he opened his golf course in Houston, and he plays at home at the Medalist. But he says he still hasn't played an 18-hole round since his two back surgeries last year.

He might be patient when it comes to his recovery, but that doesn't carry over to the golf course.

"I go out there and just play holes and mix it around," he said Monday at Congressional to promote the Quicken Loans National. "Usually at this time of year, it's a little bit on the packed side, so we're only playing a few holes here and there, and skipping around. But no, 18 consecutive holes, we run into enough groups where I just don't have the patience."

Woods said he has gotten close to 18 holes, just not in order.

"We're just moving all around the golf course," he said.

___

WANG'S BID: Jeunghun Wang's only pro victory was on the China tour two years ago. Now he has a chance to join some elite company.

Wang won the Hassan Trophy and the AfrAsia Mauritius Open in consecutive weeks. He is in the Irish Open this week at The K Club and will try to join Nick Faldo and Seve Ballesteros as the only players to win three straight European Tour events on the schedule.

Faldo in 1983 won the French Open, the Martini International in England and the Car Care Plan International in England. Three years later, Ballesteros won the Irish Open, the Johnnie Walker Monte Carlo Open and the French Open.

Rory McIlroy in 2014 won three in a row — the British Open, Bridgestone Invitational and PGA Championship — though that was over four weeks. And in 2010, Martin Kaymer won the PGA Championship, Dutch Open and Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland. That was over an eight-week stretch.

Tiger Woods has done it twice on the PGA Tour — at the end of 1999 (Disney, Tour Championship, American Express) and in 2006 (PGA Championship, Bridgestone Invitational, Deutsche Bank).

___

DIVOTS: Jordan Spieth has another bobblehead. AT&T is giving them out to the first 8,000 fans at the AT&T Byron Nelson on Saturday. The company, which has endorsed Spieth since 2014, also handed out a bobblehead of him at Pebble Beach. In addition to the bobblehead, AT&T will make available its 4K UHD broadcast that it had for Amen Corner at the Masters this year. ... Rickie Fowler, Justin Fowler and Smylie Kaufman took another trip, though this was more work than play. They went up to Oakmont on Monday to see it before the U.S. Open. Spieth didn't join them — he is playing the AT&T Byron Nelson this year (and saw Oakmont two weeks ago). ... Bob Ford, the esteemed head pro at Oakmont, tried local qualifying for the U.S. Open and missed by three shots. ... Russell Knox is playing the Irish Open for the first time. Knox also will play the Scottish Open to get his minimum five starts required for being a European Tour this year.
